At Rosebud Child Therapy we offer a unique space for school aged children, 6 years and older, to engage in an art psychotherapy group. We also offer individual child art psychotherapy for children over 6 years of age. We can provide speech and language therapy consultation for children of all ages, as well as therapy, depending on the area of need.

It is our passion to enable self awareness, confidence and connection for children. These have been identified as protective factors for positive mental health.

Our particular skills and interest is in supporting the emotional wellbeing of children with speech, language and communication challenges, including difficulties with speech clarity, language comprehension and expression, stammering or differences with social communication.

It can be difficult to find words for feelings. The art psychotherapy group, and individual child art psychotherapy, provide an opportunity for children to express their feelings non-verbally. The art that is created is the primary mode of communication. In the carefully contained therapeutic space the special relationship between image making and the unconscious, can be utilized. This facilitates a better understanding of emotions which supports the child in making meaning of their experience.

The benefits of the group context in particular, include peer support, and also experiencing the opportunity to provide help to others.

We will meet with you and your child and talk about your hopes and concerns. Together we will decide if this is the right time for support, and also what form of support is right for your child.
